Camp Description
The Monroe Lake outpost is what most people imagine a fly-in outpost to be. The cabin sits on a small island with a commanding view of the lake. Fishermen annually share this special place with a pair of loons who also call it home. The lake water here is a clear greenish color and produces plentiful walleye and exceptional northern every year. We’re told that the lazy fisherman can catch many, many fish right off the dock as the bottom drops off quite steeply. Easily accessible are 2 portage lakes teeming with fish for the adventurous angler.
The Monroe Lake cabin features both a refrigerator with a freezer above and a chest type deep freeze. The secret to having cold beer is to place the beer in the chest freezer to get it good and cold and then put it in the refrigerator. The freezer above the refrigerator provides plenty of room for frozen foods. We keep a good supply of ice in the chest freezer to act as a heat sink so the freezer doesn’t get behind trying to cool the beer. Take the beer to the ice. Don’t take the ice to the beer and you will have plenty of ice cold beer.
We built the cabin at Monroe Lake in 1984 to replace an older cabin we had acquired there. This cozy cabin will sleep 6 and has hot and cold running water. There is a walk-in pantry with ample shelving for storage and a shower area with a wash basin. Our fully equipped cabin has plenty of cupboards and counter space. Propane appliances include a stove, refrigerator, chest type freezer. A gas barbecue and a fish fryer are conveniently located outside on the new deck built in 2017. An outdoor privy is located a short walk nearby. The cabin is illuminated by solar powered electric lights
The Monroe Lake Outpost features the ever dependable Yamaha 6 Hp motors teamed with 14 foot Alumarine or Lund boats. Please note: You can be reassured that there is an emergency radio at this location and we make a weekly flight to check on your party. We also supply potable water and ice at no charge.
All outposts are equipped with boats, motors and unlimited gasoline. All cabins feature: hot and cold running water and showers, propane stove, refrigerator, chest-type freezer, pots and pans, dishes, cutlery and utensils, beds with coil spring mattresses, pillows and solar electric lights. We supply, potable water, ice and emergency communication radios at no charge. If you are prepared to meet our flying schedule, which will enable us to utilize the aircraft both ways, flying is included in the rates quoted.
