A vacation at Thousand Lakes Outposts is much more than just a fishing trip. Whether you arrive with a group of your closest friends or come with your whole family, you are sure to find that fly in fishing trips will provide you with some of the most memorable vacations you’ll ever have.

Your day may begin with the unmistakable call of the loon carried across the still early morning water and end with tall tales about the day’s fishing, but there is still so much to do to fill your day. Take the boat, paddle down the river and catch the otters at play or scan the shoreline and see if you can find a cow moose feeding along with her calf. Find a beaver dam and marvel at the incredible engineering feat before you as you watch the beaver at work. Bring a pair of binoculars so you can see for yourself exactly what it is that the eagle swooped down for and caught. When your stomach starts growling for something sweet, explore around a little and you’re likely to find wild strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries to help satisfy that craving.

Enjoy your break from the pressures of work, life, Blackberries, and telephones – make your fly in fishing trip fit YOUR idea of the perfect fishing vacation!

Thousand Lakes Outposts camps are located in the vast and rugged Boreal Forest area of Northwestern Ontario, an area well known for the thousands of pristine lakes dotting the landscape filled with walleye and northern pike. The area also provides the perfect habitat to sustain high numbers of moose, providing hunters with excellent opportunities to bag the trophy of their dreams.

We are located in Thunder Bay, Ontario, but all of our flying is done from Wabagimi Air near Armstrong, about a two and a half hour drive north of Thnunder Bay. The road is paved all the way and is a very scenic drive with lots of wildlife on the way.

Your hosts, Dwayne and Terry, are both life long residents of the Thunder Bay area. Dwayne grew up hunting, fishing, guiding and trapping in the area for a variety of fish and game.

Dwayne has been flying airplanes since 1985 and throughout his career has had experience flying several different bush planes for various local outfitters and has also served as captain for Bearskin Airlines. During the winter months Dwayne enjoys maintaining his two trap lines. During the summer and autumn seasons Dwayne loves to indulge his passions for hunting and fishing, the perfect fit with life as an outpost camp operator. Dwayne is well known as an avid moose hunter, both with a bow and a rifle and has four record kills to his name with the largest having a 62 1/2 inch spread and scoring 203 7/8, the others scored 190 4/8, 177 7/8, and 174 5/8 respectively. All of these trophy moose were taken in the area that Thousand Lakes Outposts now runs the moose hunting camps. Look for the pictures in the album.

Terry completed her BSC honors in Anthropology with a minor in forensics and DNA. Terry’s hobbies include a variety of crafts, glass bead making, glass fusion, stained glass, jewelry making, carving, scrap booking, doll making, knitting, ceramics, and many others.

Terry and Dwayne have taken their kids on fly-in fishing trips and know what is expected and what makes a trip frustrating. Both have a solid commitment to the outposts and work tirelessly to ensure the camps are in top condition and the details of your trip are taken care of. We are hard working, honest people running a family business, we will make your vacation one to remember.

Kearns and Stonehouse camps have ultra deluxe cabins that offer separate sleeping quarters, pine walls, oak laminate flooring, indoor flush toilet, shower, hot and cold running water, propane fridge and freezer, FTA television with DVD player, and solar lights with generator back up. Outside the patio door at Kearn’s you’ll find a large deck equipped with a BBQ and propane fish fryer. A short distance from the cabin is a fully enclosed fish house equipped with lights and running water that allows you to clean the day’s catch outside without being bothered by pesky flies. New boats with swivel seats and 15hp Yamaha 4-stroke motors give you the power you need to get out on the lake to find those honey holes so you can keep those fishing biting on your line.

Kearns is a camp that sleeps 14, so if your party is 4 people or less, you may choose to stay at Stonehouse. Stonehouse is a very cozy cedar log cabin located on a small secluded lake where the wind and waves aren’t a concern. Great for smaller groups, Stonehouse would make the perfect private getaway for those newlyweds who choose to fish on their honeymoon! It is equipped with 2 boats and motors for your use or you can chose to take the 10 minute walk over to Kearns lake to fish there.

Your price includes your flights to and from the cabin,(about a 30 minute flight each way), the use of boats and motors, and all fuel, both gasoline for the boats and propane for the cabin’s refrigerator, hot water heater and stove. Each cabin is also equipped with a solar power and a two-way radio or Satellite phone for 24-7 contact with us.
